On May 17th 2024, Capital Pride and the Society of Queer Momentum are organizing a rally for rainbow equality at Confederation Park at 5:30pm as part of a National Rainbow Week of Action running from May 11-17th.
The rally is a call to action for elected officials and governments at every level to address rising hate and act for rainbow equality.
Fae Johnstone, Executive Director of the Society of Queer Momentum stated, “I love this city. I know we show up for each other, we support our neighbors. With hate rising, I’m asking you to support your queer and trans neighbors by joining us on May 17th at 5:30 in Confederation Park for our Rainbow Equality Rally.”
“The National Rainbow Week of Action serves as an important week to raise awareness, advocate for inclusive policies, and foster solidarity within the 2SLGBTQ+ community,” says Noah Innis-Parchment, Operations Manager of LGBT Youthline. “By joining this initiative, LGBT YouthLine aims to amplify our efforts in providing accessible and affirming support for 2SLGBTQ+ youth, both now and in the future.”
Callie Metler, Executive Director of Capital Pride says, “It’s so special to have the work we do year round put in context with other organizations across the country. When we talk about finding and creating community- this is it. We’re not just in Ottawa today, we’re resonating everywhere.”
