Sami Landri – The Queen of Trash Chic
Sami Landri, born Samuel Landry, is the first Acadian drag queen to compete on Canada’s Drag Race, where she won the Fan Favourite award. Originally from Dieppe, New Brunswick, this multi-talented performer has captivated audiences both on stage with Le Sami Party (a hit drag-comedy show) and online, where she has built an audience of nearly 480,000 followers on TikTok and more than 282,000 on Instagram. Now based in Montreal, Sami explored music, dance, visual arts, and acting before finding her true calling in drag. She founded the Haus of Ménage collective in 2018 and was crowned Acadian Queen in 2019 under the name Mona Noose. In 2021, she also won the La Vague Award for Best Acadian Short Film for Mona, which she co-directed with Xénia Gould.
That same year, Sami went viral on TikTok with the now-iconic question, “As-tu des cigarettes?” (“Got a cigarette?”), helping bring the Acadian dialect Chiac into the spotlight while using humour to tackle political and social topics, from fears of “wokeness” to debates around pronouns. Since then, she has appeared on Crave and Radio-Canada, been featured in publications including URBANIA, La Presse, Le Devoir, and Interview Magazine, and hosted shows for Montréal Pride and Just for Laughs. She also headlines Le Sami Party, her signature Cabaret Mado show that now tours across Canada and France. In addition, she co-hosts the iconic web series Helpez-moi alongside Chiquita Mére and performs across Canada as well as in Paris, Lyon, Lille, Geneva, and Brussels. No lighter needed when you shine this bright.
