DJ TYTY is an Ottawa-based DJ and event curator who has been instrumental in the rise of the Afrobeats scene in Ottawa. Since 2013, TYTY has built a reputation for seamlessly blending genres rooted in Black music, from Afrobeats and Dancehall to Amapiano, R&B, Hip Hop and beyond, always staying ahead of the curve with emerging sounds.
What started as being the go-to aux person at house parties grew into a mission. When Ottawa had little space for Afrobeats, TYTY helped create one.
Over a decade later, TYTY has performed across Canada’s biggest cities including Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton, Quebec City and Calgary, taken the stages of festivals such as Caribana, Carrivibe and the Afrobeat Music Festival, and opened for internationally acclaimed artists including Wizkid, Niska, Sauti Sol, Christopher Martin, and Diamond Platnumz.
Beyond the decks, TYTY is a co-founder of No Limit, a collective rooted in the belief that art has the power to build and unite communities, celebrating the Burundian, Rwandese and broader African diaspora in Canada through music, fashion and dance.
At the end of every set, the goal is simple: make people feel present, alive and free, that for a moment, nothing else exists outside of the dance floor.
