The Communications Coordinator will bring style to the annual Capital Pride Festival. Get your creative juices flowing on our social media channels, spend time on the back end of the website, and make sure timely, event-related communications are clearly communicated in French and English.

Hours of Work: 35 hours/week
Hours of work are generally between 9:30am – 5pm, with some evening and weekend work required. There is no overtime in this role, so time worked outside of normal office hours will be taken in lieu. The successful applicant must be available for Festival Week: August 22 – 30, 2026
Reports to: Executive Director
Place of Work: Hybrid- The team will work in-office at 396 Cooper Street, Monday-Thursday. The team will work from home Fridays.
Materials: The Volunteer Coordinator is expected to use a personal laptop and accessories to complete work. Software to be provided by Capital Pride.

The Communications Coordinator will assist in the organization of the Capital Pride Festival which takes place August 22-30 2026.
Job Description
Communications
- Manage internal and external communications plans for the festival, including writing advertisements, brochures, campaign materials and website copy in French and English.
- Monitor the internal and external environment to identify communications opportunities, challenges, and issues.
- Regularly review Capital Pride’s current communication plan to ensure goals and objectives are met, consulting with the Executive Director as needed to make any amendments or adjustments.
- Write press releases, coordinate media events such as press conferences, campaign launches, etc.
- Regularly review and update of content on Capital Pride’s website for the festival.
- Maintain communication standards in line with a consistent image, and adhere to internal brand guidelines.
Social Media
- Monitor social media pages, blogs and press releases for content opportunities and initiate conversations on behalf of the organization.
- Populate content calendars weekly for approval.
- Create timely and engaging content in French and English optimized for each platform and intended audience, including researching, writing and designing content.
- Manage/update social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram daily to engage with users and respond to inquiries.
- Manage the deployment of the festival promotion plan on socials, including liaising with partner organizations and paid advertising.
- Develop analytic reports defining the reach and engagement for each account weekly.
Other
- Prepare a report following the Festival that includes a summary of all communications materials, media mentions and social media strategy.
- Assist with the planning of various event components, including guestlist and invitations, liaising with photographers and videographers, and marketing to support the Operations Team.
Qualifications
- Able to read, write and speak fluently in English and French.
- Familiarity with Google’s G-Suite including using Google Drive, Docs, Sheets and Forms (or equivalent Office suite).
- Member of, or ally to, the 2SLGBTQ+ community and a commitment to operating within an anti-oppressive framework.
- Knowledge of, and/or experience working or volunteering in, the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
- Proven experience with social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, X, Bluesky).
- Detail oriented and very organized.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in busy and occasionally high-stress situations.
Eligibility
To be eligible, youth must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment** and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
