Director, Francophone Affairs
Francesco (He/Him or They/Them) is a non-binary queer Franco-Ontarian who moved to Ottawa in 2014 to pursue his postsecondary studies in Political Science and Communications. Working at the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI) at the University of Ottawa, Francesco has sought to bring attention to the challenges facing official language minority communities in Canada, often highlighting issues that arise between the intersections of linguistic and sexual identities. Prior to this, he was heavily involved with the student movement in the National Capital Region, serving as both Vice-President, Services and Communications at the Student Federation of the University of Ottawa (SFUO) and Francophone Representative to the Canadian Federation of Students’ (CFS) National Executive for the 2016-2017 mandate.
Having worked on a number of campaigns for language rights, Francesco wishes to make sure that francophone members of the National Capital Region’s LGBTQ+ community feel welcome, valued, and respected at all our events. Francesco draws his experience from having collaborated with a number of francophone organisations, such as the Fédération de la jeunesse franco-ontarienne (FESFO), the Regroupement étudiant franco-ontarien (RÉFO), the Fédération de la jeunesse canadienne française (FJCF), the Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario (AFO), and the non-for-profit organisation French for the Future.
Francesco seeks to broaden the perspective of Capital Pride so as to build an organisation that truly reflects the beauty and diversity of our official languages communities.
